Food Inventory

This product concept was conceived and prototyped for IA Collaborative to introduce Internet-of-Things prototyping tools in their studio.

A connected food-inventory system is proposed, prototyped using force sensitive resistors underneath a platform connected to a wifi-enabled microcontroller. When most items on the board are no longer there, a text is sent to the user via instructions from the Photon micro-controller to IFTTT web service.

Capacitive liquid-level sensing for non-solid foods was also explored, but not completed due to absence of capacitive touch libraries available for Photon at the time of this project.

The ultimate vision of this concept is to integrate multiple sensors (capacitive liquid level as well as force-sensitive) with pre-existing website ingredient-based recipe databases (such as www.Supercook.com) to keep track of personal food inventory and recommend recipes curated to what an end-user has in inventory.
